Bricks In The Wall
About the "Bricks in the Wall" video project ~ Photo Gallery
The "Bricks in the Wall"¯ project began as an audio CD of eleven original songs written by singer-songwriter
Margaret Bernstein aimed at the prevention, education and awareness of domestic violence. A DVD of the music video
"Bricks in the Wall" accompanies the album. It was released in March of 2007 in conjunction with International Women's Day.
$3 from each album sold will be used towards the SAFE program aimed at the prevention and education of domestic violence.
The music video, "Bricks in the Wall," also aims at increasing general awareness of domestic violence. In addition, the "Bricks"¯
project includes live performances consisting of music from the album by Margaret Bernstein's band. Our goals are to bring awareness
and education to the general public on the problem of domestic violence including verbal and emotional abuse as well as to inspire women
who are currently undergoing abuse in their lives.
The "Bricks in the Wall"¯ project integrates the following:
Human Needs: It addresses social issues, as the aim of the video is to bring further awareness of domestic violence to the general public.
The Arts: The project directly involves the arts as music and film is the vehicle in which the message of social change is to be conveyed.
Education: An important component of the project is to educate the general public about behavior that is not usually recognized as domestic
violence including verbal abuse and violent physical actions not directed at the victim.
The video "Bricks in the Wall" will impact thousands of women throughout North America by audibly and visually illustrating a publicized problem
of domestic violence while also providing them with a hotline number that will direct them to help.
Community Need Statement
The community of American Women, which includes women of all ages, races,
social-economic status, cultures, levels of education, and sexual preference,
needs more education and support for dealing with issues surrounding domestic
violence. Women need to be educated that domestic violence is not exclusive to
violent physical actions directed at the victim, but also may include verbal
abuse and other violent physical actions, which will be demonstrated in the
context of the music video. In addition, young women need to become aware of the
cycles of violent behavior as well as learn how to build up their self-esteem
and gain financial independence, all of which will be addressed in the SAFE
program.

To find out about Margaret Bernstein's music and other projects, please visit the growing Azalea Music website: www.gamusic.com About the “Bricks in the Wall” audio Project The Album "Bricks in the Wall”, Margaret Bernstein's debut singer-songwriter album, is comprised of eleven original songs aimed based on personal experience with the aim of generating awareness of Domestic Violence. It is the journey from realizing that something is amiss in a relationship in the dynamic “Breath of Air” to getting through the pain to a place of solace in the “Light at the end of the Tunnel”. Whereas “Bricks in the Wall” and “the fight to be Strong” speak directly with the violence, other songs such as “Let You Go”, “The Life we never had”, “Nothing left to do but say goodbye” and “The Bare Minimum” deal with the emotions usually associated with leaving a relationship. The album is balanced by the compassionate ballads of self acceptance, “Midnight” and “ Curtain Falls” as well as the lushly orchestrated “You must have heard me pray”, addressing the issue of child custody. The album, co-produced by Margaret Bernstein and Lou Giminez, features Margaret Bernstein on vocals, piano and flute as well as over a dozen guest musicians from the greater New York City area. It has been recorded at the Music Lab studio in Elmont, New York, and at Marc Dann's studio in Woodstock, NY. The Album, which will be accompanied by a DVD of the music video of the title song, “Bricks in the Wall”, is scheduled to be released on March 8, 2007, in conjunction with International Women's Day. Proceeds from the album will benefit the SAFE program for Domestic Violence Prevention Education. The release of “Bricks in the Wall” will be followed by a national tour in which proceeds from the performances will benefit the domestic violence center of the city in which the concert venue is located. The album will be available for purchase at the performances as well as through CD Baby and at selected Tower Records and Borders Books and Music stores. Please e mail us at Contact@gamusic.com if you would like to be added to our mailing list to learn about the release of the album as well as upcoming concert dates.
