Blogs Our recent trip to Montreal We arrived in Montreal just after 11 PM on a Monday evening in December, four hours later than our estimated time of arrival due to the delays caused by customs and the snow blizzard that had occurred earlier that day. When I saw the snow that morning, I honestly did not know if we would make it to the train station. I left a lot of extra time to navigate the snowy roads and arrived at the station in plenty of time for our train. The long wait in the Albany train station allowed me the opportunity to catch up on e-mails, eat some lunch, and mail a late Christmas present to my tenant in England. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Obituary for Robert E Rooster (AKA “Bob the Rooster”)
Mr. Robert E Rooster (AKA “Bob the Rooster”) passed away quietly at his home in Renssealerville, New York on Friday, May 7th in the afternoon. Born in rural Greene County and originally raised under the name of “Sponge Bob”, Bob lived with four other chickens at the home of Holly, David, and Sterling Rossell in Smith Corners near Medusa, New York until July 8th, 2007. He was then adopted by Singer-Songwriter/ flutist Margaret Bernstein and her son, Julian Jacobs, and brought to live at their five- acre farm in the Hilltowns of Southern Albany County. Three of the other Rossell chickens-Rooster Smokey and hens Gertrude (“Gertie”) and Rojo (“Saroja”) also accompanied him. However, without the presence of his dear hen, Sunny, Bob was one sad and lonely rooster. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ ASCAP Expo 2010 When I arrived at the Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood at 11am, I had already been traveling for over ten hours, having begun my journey at 3:45 am that morning. Two trains, a five plus hour plane ride, and a drive in the super shuttle got me to my destination. As one of the passengers of the super shuttle exited at a nearby hotel to attend the Film Festival, I saw Eli Wallach whom I recognized as one of the leads in the movie “Holiday”, standing outside the hotel. True to my spirit, I spontaneously leaped out of the shuttle and introduced myself. I felt as though I had walked right into the movie as we conversed for a few minutes. (His character off screen was not too different from on his on the screen persona). I jumped back into the shuttle just in time. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ My Experience at the Grammy's After I made my trip to the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards in Downtown Los Angeles this year, I received a lot of questions. “How is it that you were able to attend?, “Why did you go to the Grammy’s?”, “Who did you meet?” and “What was it like?” were the ones most commonly asked. I joined the National Academy of the Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) last April while attending the ASCAP Expo Conference. The number of recorded songs and compositions that I had available for purchase on i tunes qualified me for membership into the Academy. As a member of NARAS, I received an invitation to attend the awards show, which included the televised awards show and also a pre-telecast show, and the after party. It has been a life-long dream of mine to win a Grammy award, so I jumped at the opportunity to see the production first-hand. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Fifteen Reasons Why Bob the Rooster Would Make the Perfect Boyfriend
______________________________________________________________________________________________ Notes from the songwriter about Cinderella Falling Inspiration for writing a song often comes from a compilation of interesting life stories, and Cinderella Falling is no exception. When I first wrote the song several years ago, I was dating an ER doctor and also working as a music teacher in the projects of Troy, New York. My office was actually an old shower stall! The extreme contrast of these two worlds coupled with the parodies of communication challenges lead to the writing of the song, which ultimately lead to the making of the Cinderella Falling music video. Often the best art is born from a collaboration of creative minds coming together. This has certainly been the case, not only in the audio recording of Cinderella, but also in the making of the music video, which I hope you will take the opportunity to watch. I welcome your comments and hope that you enjoy! Cinderella Falling is the first single from the long-awaited “Distant Thunder” album by Margaret Bernstein, which will be released in 2010. Margaret’s previously released CD, “Bricks in the Wall” (which also contains a music video DVD), is also available on CDBaby. |
